Shah Residence

Gurgaon

Taking account of the corner plot with the longer side oriented towards north, the residence utilizes the natural scenery provided by the park, bringing in ample diffused natural light throughout the day. The design maximizes the use of this orientation and the views towards the garden by creating full height windows with playful composition to break up the mass of the four storied building – bringing in a touch of sleek modernism to its fenestrations. The double height space on the upper two floors looks over to the park uninterrupted, the origin of a focal point with the spiral staircase both from within the building and from outside. Horizontal bands at each floor level wrap the three sides creating a homogeneous coherent façade visually from different angles. The balcony railing slopes up towards the south creating privacy from the neighbors yet creating an interesting visual identity. The vertical louvers are added at the utility area for privacy and block the harsh sun. The shaft is contained within the zig zag surface with one side made of perforated screen pattern for ventilation and natural light to the toilets. The textured dark stone treatment at the stilt level grounds the building visually creating an interesting effect with light on the texture.
