The site situated at an elevated level from the adjacent road provides a great opportunity to create a tranquil setting for creating homes set within the existing peach orchard offering great views of the Himalayas with ample sunlight throughout the year. The architecture shall be informed by the orchard and the slope of the site to fully maximize its potential to achieve a harmonious biophilic homes connected to the landscape physically merging seamlessly and to each other. The yoga pavilion at the tranquil end of the plot shall sit within the existing peach orchard and landscaped garden.
The Orchard Homes rise gently from the earth, blending effortlessly with the contours of the land. Elevated above the adjacent road, they are nestled within a tranquil peach orchard, offering sweeping views of the Himalayas and bathed in golden sunlight throughout the year. Each residence, though distinct, is connected by a subtly integrated porch that merges with the natural topography. Inspired by the vernacular architecture of the Kumaon region, the design incorporates locally sourced stone, pine wood, and earth block walls, creating a homely, modern retreat that harmonizes with the surrounding environment.
The southern-facing design welcomes warmth and light into every room while framing the dramatic peaks to the south and west. As the landscape rises and falls, so too do the three residence blocks, each carefully positioned to capture its own unobstructed view of the Himalayas. At the quiet end of the plot, a yoga pavilion nestles serenely amid the orchard, creating a perfect sanctuary for reflection and mindfulness.
Adored with simplicity, the material palette echoes the homeliness of the region. Locally quarried stone grounds the homes, while pine wood brings warmth and texture to the spaces. Earth block walls, a modern interpretation of traditional building methods, lend a natural softness that blends seamlessly into the surrounding greenery. Here, nature and design speak the same language, each complementing the other in an elegant dialogue of textures and tones.
The Orchard Homes are not just residences; they reflect the landscape itself, a place where architecture dissolves into the earth, allowing life to flow in harmony with nature.
